7 Things You Should Wear for Hiking in the Smoky Mountains
Are you planning on hiking while you’re visiting the Great Smoky Mountains? You may be wondering what the best items are to bring with you, and we want to share some of the most important clothes and accessories you should take on a hike. Here are 7 things you should wear for hiking in the Smoky Mountains:
1. Sunscreen
Sunscreen is important to wear every day when you’re exposed to the sun, but it is especially important while you’re hiking. Even if you are going on a trail that’s mostly covered by trees or it’s overcast outside, you should still pack and wear sunscreen. You don’t want to risk getting a sunburn while you’re on vacation, and you definitely want to protect your skin!
2. Bug Spray
Another important thing to take with you while hiking in the Smoky Mountains is bug spray. The summer months are more notorious for bugs being active, but no matter when you’re in the mountains, you should bring and use bug spray before you head out on the trails. You don’t want to come back to your hotel or cabin to find yourself bitten by a ton of bugs!
3. Comfortable Tops
When you go on a hike, you want to be able to move freely. Opt to wear a comfortable t-shirt that provides you with plenty of room to move around since many trails in the national park are rocky and rough. If you’re in need of a comfortable top, check out our Smoky Mountain t-shirts!
4. Lightweight Jacket
During most of the year, the temperature is comfortable in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. However, it can vary up to 20 degrees depending on the elevation of the area you’re in. You may find that you want a lightweight jacket for this temperature difference or when the wind starts to blow. Here are some comfortable hoodies that will make a great souvenir and keep you warm on the trails!
5. Appropriate Shoes
One of the most important things to consider when you go hiking in the Smoky Mountains is what type of shoes you should wear. The best shoes are those made for hiking trails, and you’ll want moisture-wicking socks to pair with them. These types of shoes will protect your feet from getting scratched, bitten, and possibly sprained. There’s nothing more important than the right footwear!
6. Sunglasses
While sunglasses aren’t a necessity while you’re hiking, they definitely can come in handy! If the sun is super bright, you may want to bring your sunglasses with you to block out the powerful UV rays while you’re out on the trails.
7. A Hat
A hat also isn’t something you have to wear when you hike, but it may come in handy. The brim of a baseball cap can prevent the sun from getting in your eyes. In the winter, a hat will keep heat close to your body and prevent your ears from getting cold.
These are just some of the things you should probably wear when you go hiking in the Smoky Mountains. Are you excited about your upcoming trip? Look through our Smoky Mountain themed apparel, and pick out some to get and wear on your trip!
